Sixth Graders Discover the Discovery Center
Orientation is in full swing at the Oak Hill Middle School Discovery Center. Sixth grade students were welcomed by Ms. Zeigler, Oak Hill media specialist and Mrs. Brantley, Oak Hill media clerk, with a presentation on procedures, services, and upcoming events. The scholars discovered how fiction and non-fiction books are categorized, as well as how to perform searches using the Destiny catalog system. These media/research skills will follow the students into high school and beyond both academically and professionally.
The students enjoyed a tour around the cheerful and comfortable space to view the hundreds of new books currently in circulation. Students can enjoy graphic novels, audio books, reference materials, and an extensive nonfiction section. The orientation sessions ended with a scavenger hunt to reinforce skills and further experience the layout of the Discovery Center. The Oak Hill Middle School Discovery Center encourages reading for research, knowledge,.and pleasure by offering a robust selection of print and digital materials to promote intellectual discussion and reflection throughout the school day.
